Cash boost for Retford, Tuxford and Harworth high streets
High Streets in Retford, Tuxford and Harworth are set to receive a £50,000 windfall from Bassetlaw District Council through the High Street Innovation Fund.
Retford will benefit from £30k of investment, while Tuxford and Harworth will each receive £10k as local retailers, the public, and officers from the Council will decide how the money should be spent.
In some cases the money has already been earmarked for high street improvements and renovations, as well as promotional events.
Coun David Pressley, portfolio holder for community prosperity, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the high streets of Retford, Harworth and Tuxford to showcase what they have to offer and make improvements that will entice the public to shop on their local high street.”
In Retford, the Business Forum, who were behind the successful ‘Totally Locally’ scheme are forming a Community Interest Company.
The Forum, along with input from the Council, will decide how the grant will be invested and a number of events have already been planned to promote the area, including the ‘Fiver Fest’ – which is encouraging Retford residents to spend just £5 a week with local businesses.
If this happened the local economy would be boosted by £4.6m per year.
Harworth’s allocation has already been earmarked by the Town Council to improve the general appearance of the high street and deal with existing parking problems, while Tuxford’s grant has been earmarked by the Town Council to fund Community based projects.
Details of Worksop’s High Street Innovation funding and the projects it will support will be released in the coming weeks.
