A NEW recycling firm has opened in Thurcroft – with a promise to invest income back into the local community.
TP Wood Recycling – based at the Heritage Centre – will re-use or recycle 80 per cent of all the waste wood it collects from its customers.

Companies who generate waste wood can now turn to TP Wood Recycling's unique collection service and see material currently dumped in a landfill either re-used or recycled.

"Over 10 million tonnes of timber waste is generated in the UK each year, but only 10 per cent of it is recycled," said TP Wood Recycling's chief executive Nic Marshall.

"Whilst Rotherham and South Yorkshire are working hard at improving recycling rates, our service can add significantly to that performance."

TP Wood Recycling is offering a flexible collection service for waste wood, with the capacity to collect up to 14 cubic yards of material in the company's dedicated pick-up vehicle.

The waste wood is transferred back to the company's site in Thurcroft where it is sorted and stored.

Any long lengths, larger pieces of sheet material, doors or other re-usable items are sold back to the community for DIY or given to other groups or charities.

Some of the timber will be used to make items such as bird boxes, compost bins, shelves, sheds and furniture, whilst much of the remainder will be chopped up for fire wood and kindling.

Some of the wood is sent for chipboard production, or for composting.

Operations manager, Richard Bland, said the new scheme could save companies money.

"We know that more and more companies are becoming increasingly aware of their environmental obligations," said Mr Bland.

"We believe we can help companies fulfil their 'green' credentials and save them cash by cutting their ever increasing disposal costs.."

TP Wood Recycling is the first social enterprise of TP Trading Ltd, the trading arm of Treeton Partnership which exists to help improve local communities.

Through a series of social enterprises, TP Trading aims to generate income for the Partnership to be invested back into community projects.

"TP Trading is a unique kind of business in that we believe we can offer a genuinely different kind of service to customers, particularly in the construction sector, and make a difference to their bottom line," added Mr Marshall.

"And as a social enterprise we can create new jobs and generate an additional income stream to fund projects which will benefit local communities."
