Dog owners could be targeted by council

IRRESPONSIBLE dog owners in Aston could soon be targeted by the parish council.
At the monthly meeting, councillors decided to start looking into introducing dog control orders.
The authority decided to pass the process of starting the orders to its recreation committee.
Dog control orders are available under the clean neighbourhoods and environment act 2005. The new legislation was brought in for councils to use in 2006.
Legislation sees fixed penalty notices of up £75 handed out to owners who do not pick up their animal's faeces, keep their dog on a lead or allow a dog to enter land from which they are excluded.
Individual councils make the decision from where to exclude dogs, which usually includes green areas, parks and playgrounds.
"We have been asked by Rotherham Council to look into using these new powers to control dog fouling in the parish," said Alan Hodkin, parish clerk.
Coun James Sharman also welcomed the news about introducing dog control orders.
