WIN! A pair of tickets to see Bellowhead live

Bellowhead

Bellowhead

MULTI-award winning band Bellowhead will breeze into Sheffield next month.

Their bold and brassy music will be heard at Sheffield City Hall on Thursday 14th February.

The Guardian has teamed up with promoters to offer one lucky reader a pair of tickets to witness the truly unique folk band, renowned for its energetic live performances.

Bigger, bolder, brassier and more brazen than ever, Bellowhead released their new album, Broadside, in October 2012, bringing another extraordinary chapter in their amazing story.

And it is with this album that they are set to delight the Sheffield audience with on their Valentine’s Day concert.

Bellowhead began in 2004 with a disparate group of characters who initially knew one another from informal pub sessions and thought it might be a good wheeze to pool their widely varied backgrounds, influences and talents and form a big band - just to see what happened.

Even they could not have imagined the results as their funny little enterprise - incorporating top-notch jazz, world, folk and classical musicians in a swathe of brass, strings, squeezebox, percussion and anything else that seemed like a good idea at the time - swiftly expanded into a gung-ho 11-piece line-up.

Their musicians play more than 20 instruments between them, with six members providing vocals.

They play traditional dance tunes, folk songs and shanties, with arrangements drawing inspiration from a wide diversity of musical styles and influences.

Four albums, a glut of awards, sell-out tours and a long trail of thunderous festival appearances down the line, they have transported folk music into unknown territory, introducing a whole new audience to it with them.

Bellowhead come to Sheffield City Hall on Thursday 14th February at 7.30pm. Doors open at 6.30pm.

Tickets for Bellowhead are priced at £22.50 and £17.50, subject to booking fee.

They are available online at www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk, through the ticket hotline on 0114 2 789 789 or in person at the Sheffield City Hall box office.
