WIN VIP passes for Osberton Horse Trials

NEXT week marks the 40th anniversary of horse trials at Osberton – and the Guardian has teamed up with the organisers to offer four free passes.

Over the years, the four day event has played host to many of the biggest names in the sport and Olympic trials have even been held at the picturesque estate near Worksop.

The Olympic sport of eventing combines grace, agility and speed in the ultimate test of horse and rider. It combines dressage, cross country and show jumping and traces its origins back as far as the training of cavalry horses.

It is among the few sports where men and women compete on equal terms. Dressage is often referred to as ‘horse ballet’. A sequence of intricate manoeuvres test rhythm and speed, as well as the harmony between horse and rider.

The cross country stage requires courage and stamina as competitors undertake daunting fixed fences at speed.

Dressage takes place on Thursday and Friday between 9am and 5pm, and entry is free. Cross country will be on Saturday from 9am and 5pm, with an admission price of 10 per car.

And the climax of the trials is the show jumping on Sunday, from 10am to 5pm, when entry will cost 5 per car.

The Guardian has teamed up with organisers to offer a two VIP prizes of free entry for four people on both weekend days. This will include access to the sponsor hospitality lounge, a free programme and a picnic lunch.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply answer the following question:

What anniversary will the Osberton Horse Trials celebrate when the event takes place next week?

Mark your entry Osberton Competition and post it to Rachel Morley, Hillsway, Darlbury Lees, Ashbourne, Derbys, DE6 5BE. The closing date for entries is Monday 9th September.

And ALL entrants who send a stamped addressed envelope will receive a 50 per cent off voucher for use on either Saturday or Sunday.

Event organisers Stuart and Anna Buntine are keen to hear from anyone with photographs, stories or memorabilia from past events at Osberton to help mark the event’s birthday. They can be contacted by telephone on 01949 829061 or by email on anna.buntine@bedeltd.co.uk

Normal Guardian competition rules apply. (See page 6 for details)
