Clever and funny performance from the Lindrick Players.....
FOR three nights last week Lindrick Players presented their latest comedy featuring the entirely fictitious ladies of the Farndale Avenue Townswomen's Guild Drama Group.
The title of the play, The Haunted Through Lounge and Recessed Dining Nook at Farndale Castle, gives you an idea as to its tone.
Having already performed in three previous Farndale plays, Lindrick Players are well versed in the disastrous antics of the ladies who vary from the shy and retiring to an enthusiastic clipboard wielding despot typical of those to be found in many walks of life!
Directed by Pat Thomas the entire production is a study in deliberate mis-timing which must have been excruciating for someone so experienced with her work with amateur dramatic groups.
Helen Stephenson played the clipboard obsessed Mrs Phoebe Reece, a role with which her nearest and dearest feel she has an affinity! Her facial expressions and vocal tone, steeped in condescension were masterful.
Pat Shepherd as Thelma Greenwood made a brilliant partner for Sarah Hemsall as Lottie Grosskopf. Pat's character's increasing frustration with the incompetence of her fellow actors and Sarah’s Austrian character’s struggles with the English language had the audience in stitches.
Angela Foster was Jasmine Boniface a member of Farndale ladies recently having given birth to twins and valiantly trying to cope with her part in the play and the needs of her infants. Angela had five roles in this play and watching her change costumes, teeth and accents caused much hilarity.
Linda Foy played Felicity and gained the audience’s sympathy as she was constantly bullied by the domineering Phoebe. Linda’s acting required a good range of emotions and we felt for her character as she sobbed as set changes went horribly wrong and packing-cases appeared and disappeared at the wrong moments.
Conor Pollard and James Harrison made humorous appearances, this being James’ first role with Lindrick Players and Conor’s first attempt at a play with the group and a special mention of thanks comes from the Director to Jenny Stephenson who stepped in to cover an illness on Thursday night despite other commitments.
The Farndale plays by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr. are so cleverly written that they deserve much wider acclaim and Lindrick Players version of this one resulted in a very enjoyable production, very cleverly performed.
