Worksop or shiny Sheff?

While we are getting excited about our new Aldi superstore, across the border in workshy Worksop the descendants of Robin Hood and his more than merry men are equally excited.

The reason for this is the new all singing all dancing cinema that is due to be opened next month. The six screen state-of-the-art Savoy cinema situated on Potter Street where the old outdoor market stood for many a year and looks mightily impressive from the outside at the moment. Our editor, curious Chris, had a sneak preview inside last week and said the 901-seat cinema was hopefully the first major step in regenerating the sleepy old town.

This begs the question, will you the Dinno and district natives use the Worksop cinema or will Sheffield’s Centertainment and Meadowhell’s picture palace be your preferred choice? It’s just six miles to Worksop and that must be more convenient than the Sheffield option so if this is a success could Dinno follow?

Local historian Relic Roy from the history society recalled the days when Dinno had two cinemas and folk would queue down the road to see the latest film.

So let’s have another heated debate, will it be Worksop or Sheffield that you view the next blockbuster at? Answers on a postcard please.

Sad news to report regarding Raleigh Ralf, Dinno’s famous cyclist. He got knocked off his bike last week by a road gritter and is currently recovering in hospital. I visited him and he vowed through gritted teeth to sue the council!

Animal lover Jungle Jimmy was annoyed at reading an article in the Guardian regarding cruelty to animals. He said: “Those who think it’s okay to give drugs to animals need to get down off their high horse!”

This week’s words of wisdom come from former Dinno Comp maths teacher Decimal Dave. He says: “125 per cent of people exaggerate.”
