WORKSOP'S Acorn Theatre was a vision in pink as it hosted a special Pink Disco in conjunction with Bassetlaw Breast Care Appeal last Friday.
Theatre directors Angela and Terry Pearson, donated the venue to the charity for an action-packed evening to raise awareness and money for the appeal.

Guests, who were ordered to wear pink on the night or face a fine from the Pink Police, enjoyed a boogie in the hit-packed disco – all washed down with a pie and pea supper.

Angela said the evening had been a well-attended success, and thanked everyone who pitched in over the past five months to make it go with a bang.

”There was a really good atmosphere on the night, and everybody got into the spirit of it,” she said. ”The police patrol had his badge on but we din’t take too many fines. It was lovely to see children of all ages decked out in pink – even the boys!”

Angela donated the theatre to the Breastcare Appeal for the evening, as she felt it was the perfect community venue to raise awareness about the important work the charity does to raise the profile of fundraising for breast cancer.

”The event went on well into the night. People were telling me what a good time they’d had, and how they thought it was for a great cause,” she said.

”There were some really good prizes on the raffle, and on the last count it looks as though we’ve raised £610 so far.”

Other fundraising antics on the night saw the Pink Ladies – headed by Acorn volunteer Julie Rewston – drop into the Liquorice Gardens on Newcastle Avenue where they collected £53 from punters.

And during the evening, guests wrote special messages for loved ones they have lost on Memory Balloons, which were released into the skies at 11pm.

Bassetlaw Breastcare Appeal fundraiser Sally Richardson thanked all who took part in a worthwhile cause.

”It was a really memorable evening,” she said. ”I want to thank everyone – in particular Angela and Terry – for putting so much work in.”

“It amazes me that people do this stuff for charity and I want to recognise the time it took them to plan it.”
