I HAVE found a new spiritual home. A place for relaxation; a location that takes you away from the stresses of the daily grind; a haven for reflection and mind clearing.
Eden Hall Spa – heaven is a place on earth – and it can be found about 30 miles south of Worksop near Newark.
It is a building as beautiful on the outside as the inside.
The clientele is mainly made up of women who know the benefits, and appreciate the sense of tranquillity a day here can bring.
Men have football or golf to relax and rejuvenate their minds and stimulate their senses.
But forget football, and head to the serenity of the spa.
Eden Hall offers facilities that are second to none. This fully refurbished and renovated refuge has cost millions to transform, but it was well worth the investment.
You can challenge the body by heading to the gym or the dance studio for a workout, before embarking on exercising the mind, and training it to switch off from the strains that life can bring.
During my visit I embarked upon a journey of discovery. I discovered the benefits of a full-body massage. This proved to be 60 minutes of unadulterated heaven. As the therapist pummelled and plied my muscles, and worked on freeing up the tension knots in my neck and shoulders, my mind gradually began to relax too. It took a while but by the time I was into my facial I had forgotten about the demands two children under five bring – not to mention the stresses of a deadline driven industry.
After my pre-arranged appointments, there was time to chill out further before lunch in any one of the several relaxation rooms, not to mention the gardens that offer seclusion and serenity.
Lunch is a little surreal however. As you enter your allocated dining room you, together with most guests, dine in dressing gowns. It reminded me in one way of a hospital stay, but the cuisine is definitely nothing like the offerings of the NHS.
From here I embarked upon the sauna journey – from heat blasts to cold jets, to feet stimulation to steam inhalation.
A swim in the pool ended my road to relaxation.
