WOODSETTS is gearing itself up to host its seventh Midsummer Festival on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June.
This year’s theme aims to celebrate multiculturalism.

The two-day event, organised by the Woodsetts Millennium Group committee, aims to appeal to all ages and sections of the community, and promises to feature a whole host of fun events from Samba and African drum workshops to a Ceilidh concert – and even an unusual scarecrow competition.

Committee member Jill Holden said: ”The line-up is looking really good. We’re just praying for a fine weekend now.”

“Leading up to the festival, the Woodsetts Village Hall Management Committee is organising our first ever scarecrow competition, which will be judged on Friday 20th June.”

Children from Woodsetts School, playschool, Cubs, Beavers and Brownies, will take part in a special parade to kick off the action on Saturday morning – led by a marching Samba band – followed by arts and sports competitions for children, plus a performance from Woodsetts Youth Drama Group.

Keep your eyes peeled as Second World War plane Dakota stars in a special fly-past, or enjoy an evening of entertainment from the Frances Cassidy School of Dancing and Celtic music, courtesy of Sheffield-based band Morod.

Sunday’s entertainment promises to be equally exciting and will feature a toddlers’ toddle, tug-of-war competition and skateboarding demonstrations, followed by the opening of the Lewis Reed Memorial Garden.

Entry is £1 for adults, free for accompanying children. Tickets for the Saturday evening concert of music and dance are priced £6 per adult, £3 for children, and will include a pie and pea supper.

They can be purchased from Woodsetts Post Office or by calling Peter Whyles on 01909 560952.

Anyone wanting stalls should contact Jill Holder on 07812036221 or Carol Cockayne on 07974351556.
