If he had bothered to read my letter properly he would have realised that far from not showing feelings for the driver of the car involved, the whole gist of the letter was in support of this young man and condemns those who immediately blame the driver, just like Coun Smith does himself about other drivers later in his letter.

Incidentally, I too hope the injured young man makes a full recovery as we all do.

However, it would appear that this high-profile politician, who is responsible for road safety in Rotherham borough, is actively encouraging students to disrespect other road users near their school and not have any sense of responsibility themselves when it comes to their own safety.

Coun Smith has been granted the power to blight the lives of thousands of Rotherham residents in places like Bramley, Dinnington and Aston with his stupid schemes, which, when proved wrong and don't work, he refuses to reinstate because of his arrogance.

He goes on to criticise drivers who have collided with the metal posts stuck in the carriageway on The Chase, Aston, by saying: "These posts can only have been damaged by poor driving".

The fact of the matter is, these accidents happen at night when drivers are blinded by oncoming vehicles negotiating the speed humps –raising the level of the vehicle headlights – and are then confronted by a large metal post stuck in their driving lane by some idiot from the council.

He says none of these accidents have been recorded in the past two years.
This is because (a) the council choose not to record them as it would show the scheme to be a danger to everyone driving on the road, and (b) if drivers involved had reported them, they would no doubt be faced with an extortionate bill for repairing or replacing the posts.
