Dinnington's smithy is a taste of past

UNTIL the 1930s almost every English village had its own blacksmith.

Horses were brought to be shod, wagon wheels had new rims and a multitude of everyday objects were made and repaired.

Its importance was immeasurable, and without the blacksmith and his smithy a village would be unable to function.

In the photo, we can see Dinnington's smithy. Do you know where it was situated?

Can you still see what is left of the smithy today? Do you know or remember anyone in the picture?

Do you know where you can see the blacksmith's anvil today?

Dinnington History Society, which meets on Thursday mornings, always welcomes any memories you may have of Dinnington in days gone by.

If you have any old photos of the village that you could donate or lend to the group, please call 07977271525, it would be greatly appreciated.
