Dinnington square in days gone by...

CAN you remember the square as it was in the early years?

Perhaps in the early 1940s, when gaslight was still king and lit all the streets for us, and Dinnington had a more village resemblance?

Notice the Wigmore bus in the photo, taking us to Sheffield, in the days before we could even think of buying a car.

Can you spot the horse trough kindly donated by Mr Gunnel, and who was he? Why are there men sat around in chairs, could they be selling something?

This was the era before the bus station was built in the square, and notice the extension on the church!

It is a favourite photograph or ours, of a Dinnington that we loved and which was unspoiled by supermarkets. You could go to the local shop for a friendly chat.

We would welcome any other photographs being donated to the society, so please call me on 07977 271525.

And our book, Dinnington Days Gone By, is available now priced at 6.99.

by Roy Newman, chairman of Dinnington and District Historical Society
