I decided to wait a week before responding to John Mann demanding a new bus station, and I’m glad I did.
It gave me the opportunity to read letters from the Liberal Democrats and others trying to jump on the bandwagon and drum up a few votes.
It was Labour and Liberal Democrat county councillors who voted AGAINST this project in last year’s capital budget.
Both parties betrayed the people of Worksop and are now demonstrating their usual mix of brazen hypocrisy and political opportunism.
Labour had 28 years in control of Nottinghamshire County Council, ample opportunity to deliver a new bus station.
When the Conservatives took over we found that many of their much-hyped capital projects were pie in the sky.
They did not even have proper business cases.
Without any increase in county council tax, Conservatives have already opened a new library for Worksop and are fully aware that a new bus station is essential.
The difference between us and the other parties is our commitment to deliver the bus station as a properly planned, fully costed project, not just a newspaper headline.
I hope we can count on Bassetlaw District Council to support this project as we did.
Cllr Wendy Quigley
