Police behaviour won’t be tolerated
I recently wrote a letter to the Police Complaints Department regarding the programme Coppers and the language and behaviour that was shown.
The letter I received back clearly shows that this complaint has been taken seriously. It reads:
I am writing to acknowledge your complaint in respect of the television programme Coppers currently being shown on Channel 4.
I wish to re-assure you that Nottinghamshire Police is taking any complaint in respect of this programme seriously, and apologises to you for the offence caused.
We acknowledge that the language and behaviours demonstrated by some of those participating in the programme do not meet the professional standards that we expect for all our officers and staff and we will be addressing this with the individuals concerned.
We are also commencing work to ensure that everyone representing Nottinghamshire Police clearly understands why such comments and behaviours are contrary to the values that we hold.
Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention, I hope this letter has addressed your concerns but should you wish to raise anything further please do so at the above address. Jackie Alexander, Head of Professional Standards Directorate.
This letter just goes to show that the police are not above the law, nor are they a law unto themselves, they have a duty to protect and serve the community 24/7.
