Demise of unused railway line
i notice that Network Rail are currently lifting all the tracks from the disused branch line that runs from Creswell to Clowne and onto Poolsbrook Country Park near Staveley (approximately seven miles).
I find it an extremely sad sight to see the removal of an excellent connection with no hills or tight bends or road junctions to have to negotiate.
Surely when the pressure is on to find schemes to avoid traffic congestion and pollution with efficient reliable public transport, the demise of this railway line is yet another nail in the coffin of common sense and progress.
Let’s hope at least that when the rails have been removed that a public footpath and cycle track is installed in its place in order to provide safe access to the villages previously mentioned and in the process giving the public the opportunity to get much needed exercise to cut down on the huge demand of the NHS. As Albert Einstein quoted “Peace cannot be obtained by force, only by understanding”.
